A Tunisian study on this oil was conducted because the country introduced 117 species of the plant into the environment. Because people there use Eucalyptus often as firewood, the plant was shown to have immense respiratory benefits and offered better overall health to people that used the oils.

Another study aimed to determine how Eucalyptus oil aided in the innate cell-mediated immune response. The scientific data showed that the plant extract has been particularly helpful for antiseptic and anti-inflammatory purposes.

But, the study wanted to test this extract in the essential oil form. The results showed that this substance was able to engage an immune response and should be explored further in an attempt to use the oil for new immune-regulatory agents.

The study suggests the oil may even be used to fend off infectious diseases and for a user after chemotherapy to boost the body’s immune system response.

Do you want to keep insects and lice at bay? A little bit of eucalyptus oil will work wonders. This substance is known as a natural pesticide or repellant that pushes insects away.

People have also been using this oil for centuries as a way to eliminate lice. This is a significant improvement over the harsh chemical treatments that lead to hair damage when trying to combat insects.

Side-Effects & Dangers of Using Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is a very potent substance and is considered safe when taken by mouth (diluted) for up to 12 weeks. You need to dilute the oil itself before you being its application to your skin as some people will suffer from irritation.

ATTENTION: If 3.5 mL of the oil is taken orally without being diluted, it can result in death!!!

Poisoning will cause diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea. These effects are seen in extreme cases and will not occur unless the oil has been ingested in large amounts. Dilution can help reduce the risk of poisoning occurring.

If you decide to try it for yourself, you need to follow these tips:

  • People with diabetes will want to make sure that the oil’s blood circulation properties and their medication do not result in blood sugar levels dropping too low. Initial monitoring of blood sugar levels is recommended.
  • If surgery has occurred in the last two weeks, it’s not recommended that you use Eucalyptus oil at this time.
  • Women that are pregnant or nursing will not want to use essential oils in any form at this time.
  • Young children may also be susceptible to some of the side effects stated above.

Keep in mind: Rather than applying Eucalyptus oil to the skin, use it in a diffuser or take cough drops that contain the oil.  You’ll find little to no side effects will occur.

Eucalyptus oil is a very potent oil that offers immense health benefits when taken in regular dosage sizes. However, studies do indicate that poisoning can occur when taken in large amounts and not diluted properly with water.
